Black-Owned Brands to Add to Your Beauty Collection

One of my favorite ways to celebrate Black History Month is to spread the word about Black-owned brands and businesses that I implement into my daily life.

For me, shining a light on Black-owned brands that I adore goes beyond exposure. As a woman of color, filling my shelves with brands owned by members of my own community allows me to embrace a unique sense of unity and connection with them.

Being a blogger in the beauty space, there’s nothing more exciting than finding a brand that I feel speaks to me and my personal journey. It is also a space where I can find inspiration and motivation from the founders who brought these brands to life.

Here are five Black-owned beauty brands that I love. I hope you will feel drawn to show support for them and many others this month — and beyond.

Briogeo Hair Care

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Briogeo’s founder, Nancy Twine, is the youngest African American to launch a brand in the specialty retailer Sephora. This hair-care brand has incredibly nourishing, 100% cruelty-free hair products that are perfect for all hair types. I’m a huge fan of the Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask. Not to mention, Nancy Twine is a girl boss I’m inspired by every single day.

Black Girl Sunscreen

This brand is one that I felt an instant connection to when I first discovered it. Finding sunscreen that caters to my skin as a woman of color is a difficult feat. Black Girl's sunscreen is created for women of color and contains all-natural ingredients. You’ll feel confident knowing that your skin is protected without having to worry about a visible cast or residue.

Golde

Golde is the ultimate brand for finding products that will make you glow from the inside out. From 100% natural and vegan-friendly wellness products to skin care, you’ll have plenty of choices to make you feel your best. The story of founder Trinity Mouzon Wofford building the brand completely on her own is a reminder that for people of color, anything is possible.

Linear Beauty

Natural and simple skin-care products are becoming more abundant in the market today. Linear Beauty, founded by Tasha Gear, is a breath of fresh air to have in your collection. Its ingredients are all-natural and high-quality, and you’ll always know exactly what you’re placing on your skin. The Shea Body Butter is my go-to all year round.

Base Butter

If you’re looking for skin-care products that protect, nourish, and make a skin-care routine enjoyable and easy to keep up, Base Butter is the brand for you. Its most popular product is the Radiate Face Jelly, a moisturizer that instantly gives your skin a natural glow. Founders She’Neil Johnson-Spence and Nicolette Graves are using their brand to share what they’ve learned on their skin-care journey with the rest of the world.

The brands above are just a few of many Black-owned beauty brands you can incorporate into your daily routine. Each brand has its own unique story that is sure to be celebrated during #BlackHistoryMonth — and all other months, too.
