4Good Friday Reenactments in the Philippines

If you’re in the Philippines for Easter and see men getting whipped throughout the streets, don’t be alarmed. A local tradition for many Filipino men is to act as a trio representing Jesus and the two thieves who were crucified on Good Friday. Some take things to the extreme and carry giant crucifixes, self-flagellate (the Catholic act of whipping oneself), or allow themselves to be whipped by total strangers.
