Becoming the Best You: A Message to My Younger Self

Growing up, I was always a girl with big dreams of becoming a successful businesswoman. When it came time for me to be a leader, I would always question myself and feel I was not good enough to do the job. If I could have a talk with my younger self, knowing what I know now, here is what I would tell her about becoming the best version of herself:

Dear Me:

You dream of being a strong, powerful, and independent woman, one who doesn’t take no for an answer, and one whose confidence radiates when she enters a room. Envision the woman you want to become in everything that you do and show up as her in your everyday life. Carry yourself as the person you know you have the strength and qualities to be, and you will soon see how you manifest beautiful things.

You look at the words “Dream until your dream comes true” taped to your bedroom wall every morning as you get dressed for school. These words mean so much more to you than people may think, and as you get older you’ll realize that dreaming sometimes is not enough. Take those made-up scenarios in your head and make them your reality. Don’t wait for your chance — go get what you truly want.

As you grow and venture into your high school and early college years, make sure you keep your goals in mind; don’t let anything or anyone get in your way. Although you love your friends and family, always remember that your goals matter, too, and it’s okay to put yourself first. You will find it hard to accept that not everyone has your best interest at heart, which is why you have to be the one to fight for yourself. Take a stand when you feel like something is wrong, and don’t be afraid of rejection. You are special; a person like you is not easy to find. Surround yourself with those who understand and support your passions and who encourage you to be your best self, always.
