My Summer Travel Essentials (and How They’ve Changed)

Coming from a family that never misses a summer vacation trip together, it’s been a year of adjustment. After staying home with travel restrictions for many months, our travels are officially underway again, and I couldn’t be more excited.

As many travelers do, I tend to have a set of summer travel essentials that always come with me to make sure my trips run as smoothly as possible. Given that this is my first trip since the pandemic, my summer essentials have changed quite a bit. No matter where I go this summer, my safety and health are at the forefront of my mind to make sure that I can enjoy my travels to the fullest.

Below are some of the summer essentials that will be my go-to for my travels this summer and beyond.

Reusable Water Bottle

Traveling often entails a lot of moving around before settling comfortably at your destination. With an empty water bottle, you can refill as needed and always stay hydrated while on the go. This is key especially for hot destinations and can save you time and money rather than having to purchase water everywhere you go.

Hand Sanitizer/Wipes

We’ve all grown accustomed to keeping our hands and spaces clean regardless of where we are. This is a practice that will continue to stay with me on my travels. I always carry a mini hand sanitizer in my bag to keep my hands clean, as well as disinfectant wipes to clean surfaces around me.

Portable Charger

If you decide to opt for electronics on your trip, a portable charger is great to have while out and about. Whether you're using your phone to capture memories or to help you navigate a new location, a portable charger will ensure your electronics stay charged without having to worry about battery life.

Face Mask

A lot of flights are still requiring face masks, and certain locations during your travels may require them as well. Having a face mask or two in hand while traveling during this time will keep you prepared for instances where that may be the case. I love to use a silk face mask, as they are comfortable and not too harsh on the skin but still keep me protected at all times.

Travel Pillow

Traveling can get uncomfortable, especially on long trips where you have to adapt to conditions and environments different from what you’re used to. My travel pillow always comes with me to bring a sense of comfort and relaxation when I’m on the plane or on a long road trip.

SPF Sunscreen

By now, you’ve probably heard of the importance of sunscreen. Whether you’re going on a city trip or a beach trip, make sure your sunscreen comes with you. You can find many brands that carry travel-size versions. With sunscreen in hand, you’ll stay protected and keep the health of your skin a priority. Some of my favorite sunscreens come from the brand Supergoop.

While traveling, there’s so much to keep in mind. Having a list of essentials to take with you beforehand can help alleviate some of the stress. What will you be taking on your travels this summer?
