The Thoughts You Have Right Before Your Wedding

I’ve been engaged for three years, including one extra year because we delayed our wedding due to the pandemic. When you have three years to plan a wedding, it can be easy to become lulled into a false sense of security. But, now that the big day is two months away, we’ve entered crunch time.

With so many items on a wedding planning checklist, it can feel like the planning never ends. Even when you’ve kept to a schedule and worked diligently, the wedding stress is still real — and scary. Here are some of the last minute thoughts you have right before your wedding:

  • What if we don’t have enough food? Will people get angry if they can’t have second helpings?

  • What if we have TOO MUCH food? I don’t want to be wasteful.

  • What if someone comes who is vegan and gluten-free and soy-free and eats a raw food diet and we can’t accommodate them?

  • What if it rains?

  • What if my DJ cancels?

  • What if my DJ only plays oldies (and not the crowd pleaser oldies) despite my carefully curated playlist requests?

  • What if everyone comes down with food poisoning?

  • What if *I* get food poisoning?

  • What if my last minute dress alterations get mixed up with someone else’s measurements and my dress doesn’t fit?!

  • What if it rains?

  • What if no one dances?

  • What if my relatives start dirty dancing?

  • What if I forgot to book something?

  • Wait, did I forget to book something?

  • No, I definitely booked everything, I have a checklist.

  • Should I have hired a wedding planner?

  • Nah, I saw that movie and that could have caused more problems.

  • Do wedding planners ever run off with the grooms in real life?

  • It’s actually pretty messed up that Matthew McConaughey flirts with Jennifer Lopez when he’s engaged.

  • When should I get my marriage license?

  • Wait … should I have gotten my marriage license already?

  • When do we sign the marriage license?

  • What if someone objects during the ceremony?

  • Is objecting a real thing? Do people do that?

  • What if I trip while walking down the aisle?

  • Should I throw my bouquet?

  • Is that an outdated tradition? Is it sexist?

  • We’re definitely not doing a garter toss … Gross.

  • What if no one likes the guest gifts we hand out?

  • What if they like the guest gifts too much and a fist fight breaks out?

  • I just hope everyone has a good time.

  • I hope I have a good time.

  • I can’t wait for all this planning to be over.

  • I can’t wait to marry the love of my life.
