Unstoppable Annie: Women in Business Video Series
Annie LaVerdure-Weller never really knew her parents. Her father, an alcoholic, was never around. Her mother, a drug addict, was similarly unavailable. When she went to live with her grandparents, her step-grandfather touched her inappropriately. So LaVerdure-Weller moved out and was on her own at 16.
It takes a strong-willed, determined woman to overcome such personal challenges, and LaVerdure-Weller has indeed thrived. The independent, Native American entrepreneur has a variety of businesses, including the Leadership Lab, a coaching organization that helps underserved demographics — including minorities, veterans, and members of the LGBTQ+ community — get career ready. But as every good mentor knows, even coaches need coaching. So CircleAround introduced her to a business coach to see how such help could guide this inspiring woman further.
LaVerdure-Weller, based in Portland, Oregon, is one of the first participants in a new video series, Women in Business, produced by CircleAround and its two partners, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and Verizon Business. (Visit here to read more about the series.)
In the first episode, LaVerdure-Weller gets introduced to Thresette Briggs, business coach and President/Chief Performance Officer of Indiana-based Performance 3. Of her clients, Briggs notes that she tries to “pull out something they have in themselves already.”
We soon learn that LaVerdure-Weller has a brilliant new business opportunity that is very unique to her experience — though it is one that is borne out of a setback she faced from a major illness she continues to battle.
