5 Tips to Maintain Your Wellness Routine While Working from Home

I am a wellness writer in my mid-20s and I work from home full time. I spend my days writing about the health benefits of various foods, the latest wellness trends, and proper form when exercising. The irony? Despite writing about these topics for years, I spend the majority of my days sitting at a desk and staring at a screen.
Given my job, it makes sense that I consider myself a health nut and carve out time for wellness practices during the day. Here are the five best wellness tips that work for me. I hope they inspire you, too.

1. Start Your Day with a Green Smoothie

This is a great way to get nutrients first thing in the morning and sets you up for success for the rest of the day. I started drinking green smoothies about five years ago, and it’s a morning ritual I’ll never give up. My go-to smoothie contains frozen fruit, fresh greens, chia seeds, and water.

2. Make Sleep a Priority

When I became a young adult, I promised myself that I would put an end to those late nights. I go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time every day, so I always get the recommended amount of sleep. This allows me to be more productive during my work hours, and it’s important for overall health.

3. Get Some Fresh Air at Least Once a Day

Every day, I open up the windows to let in some fresh air. I also take evening walks or run errands several times a week. This gives me a nice break from my work and screens to clear my mind, and I get the benefits of spending time around some greenery.

4. Be Realistic with Your Meal Planning

Your meals don’t have to be complicated, time-consuming, and expensive. I like to meal prep at least one recipe at the beginning of the week. Lately I’ve been loving quinoa salad and veggie-fried rice. This takes the stress out of wondering what I’ll eat for lunch and also prevents me from eating convenience food that isn’t as nutritious. I enjoy cooking, so I look forward to the routine of making dinner after each workday.

5. Fall in Love with Exercise

For years I didn’t enjoy exercise. I tried everything! It wasn’t until I did Pilates that I really fell in love with working out and actually looked forward to my exercise routine. I take classes at my local studio, but I also enjoy at-home Pilates workouts. When you find the right form of exercise for you, your relationship with fitness will significantly improve. Plus, exercise has been shown to enhance brain health.

When you work from home, it may feel like your professional life has taken over your personal space. I know I related to that feeling when I started working from home a few years ago. Over time, I’ve realized that I’m happier, healthier, and more productive when I incorporate a few habits that don’t take up too much time, yet make a huge difference. With a little effort, you can work from home and make wellness a priority.
