Anna Faris Reveals What Prompted Her Split from Chris Pratt
Anna Faris has opened up about what really happened between her and ex-husband Chris Pratt.
The Mom star sat down with Gwyneth Paltrow in the most recent episode of her podcast, Anna Faris Is Unqualified, and revealed some of the specifics behind why she and Pratt ultimately broke up.
Any hint of competitiveness and comparison, I didn't handle that very well.
"My two other marriages were with actors and I don't think we did a great job of eliminating competitiveness," said Faris. "Or at least I didn't, being a proud person, and not wanting to reveal vulnerability."
Her reference to "other marriages" includes when she was previously married to actor Ben Indra from 2004 to 2008 and later to Chris Pratt from 2009 to 2018.
"Any hint of competitiveness and comparison, I didn't handle that very well, I don't think," she said. "And I hope I've grown from that."
Faris and Pratt sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood when they announced they'd be separating in 2017 with a vague message on social media. The duo's joint statement posted to their social media accounts said that they "tried hard for a very long time" and are "really disappointed." They were married eight years and share a son, Jack, together.
Not Ideal, But Going Forward
Of Jack, they said: "Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake, we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together, and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."
Less than a year later, Pratt would go a bit more public with his feelings and say in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: "Divorce sucks, but at the end of the day, we’ve got a great kid who's got two parents who love him very much."
"We’re finding a way to navigate this while still remaining friends and still being kind to one another," he told the publication. "It’s not ideal, but yeah, I think both of us are actually probably doing better."
Both Pratt and Faris have moved on. Faris is engaged to cinematographer Michael Barrett while Pratt married Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019 and even welcomed a daughter, Lyla Maria in August 2020.
