Ella Emhoff (Kamala Harris' Stepdaughter), Lands First Magazine Cover

Ella Emhoff
If you haven't yet been acquainted with Vice President Kamala Harris' stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, you're about to: She just landed her first magazine cover.
The Parson's School of Design student is gracing the cover of Berlin-based publication Dust Magazine's Spring 2021 issue wearing a jacket she designed herself.

As someone who had self-confidence issues, it is intimidating and scary to go into this world that is hyper-focused on you and the body.

"The choice was honestly very spur-of-the-moment," she told Dust of her style for the shoot. "Personally, I like the cross between old and new. I love the doily-type collars, I obviously love knits, I love tartans, I love classic embroidery, and I wanted to make sure I stayed true to myself and keep that alive."
The Dust magazine cover is a continuation of the blockbuster year that the 21-year-old's been having. After making quite a splash with a stylish bejeweled coat at her stepmom and President Joe Biden's inauguration in January, The New York Times reported that she had signed with IMG Models.
"I was pretty surprised when everything with IMG was happening because, when I was younger, I never saw that as being part of my timeline," she told the Times of the partnership. "As someone who, like a lot of young girls out there, had self-confidence issues, it is intimidating and scary to go into this world that is hyper-focused on you and the body."

Being Part of the Change

Emhoff went on to explain to the publication that she changed her mind about modeling after seeing more diverse models take the runway and shared that she, too, wanted to be "part of that change."
On the heels of her IMG signing, she also made a surprise appearance at the Proenza Schouler runway show during New York Fashion Week, weeks later. Her appearance at the socially-distant presentation involved her wearing three looks from the brand's fall/winter 2021 collection.
The same day as her Proenza Schouler appearance marked the release of Emhoff's debut collection of knitwear. Sold at online retailer Mall, the collection almost immediately sold out.
We're not saying 2021 belongs to Ella Emhoff, but it sure looks like it so far.
