Some people go to the Olympics with the hope of racking up medals to take home; others go and rack up engagement rings!

Argentine fencer Maria Belen Pérez Maurice faced off against Anna Márton of Hungary at the Summer Games in Tokyo over the weekend. Just after Pérez Maurice lost the match, her boyfriend, longtime coach, and partner, Lucas Guillermo Saucedo, proposed, live on television.

It's no surprise she said yes — Pérez Maurice and Saucedo have been together for 17 years.

The 36-year-old had been talking about her fencing loss in an interview with Argentinian television when Saucedo held up a note that simply read, in Spanish: “Will you marry me??? Please.” She happily said yes.

"They [the media] told me to turn around, and he had the letter. I forgot everything. I was like, 'Oh my God,'" she said, as per the Associated Press. "We are very happy. We are very good partners. Of course, we have fights, but we enjoy each other's time. We love each other so much, and we want to spend our lives together. We are going to celebrate in Buenos Aires with a big barbecue."

She also added that she and Saucedo had been "talking about this [getting married], but I didn’t know," according to The Guardian.

The publication noted that on Saucedo's part, he apparently may not have popped the question then had Pérez Maurice beaten Marton. But, he felt with the moment, it was the right time.

"I love her, and when she lost the match, she got very sad, so maybe this proposal should change her mentality," he said. "I wrote on the paper in the moment. If she had won, no, I would have waited for the moment."

The couple came together through fencing. Saucedo had reportedly represented Argentina in fencing prior to becoming a coach and went on to coach Pérez Maurice, which led to them dating.
