How Girl Scouts Skyrocketed Her Career

Like many children, Girl Scout alum Courtney Schmitt spent her childhood fascinated by the world above her. With all its mysteries, history, and secrets to uncover, space lured in the stargazer, eventually launching her down an aerospace career path. Back then, young Schmitt dreamed of being an astronaut, but her love for robotics (and distaste for serious G-force) would lead her down a slightly different path.

Today, this inspirational woman is a controls engineer at Blue Origin, one of the world's most reputable aerospace manufacturing and suborbital spaceflight services companies. Her success shows girls everywhere that there's nothing in the world (or galaxy, rather) that you can't achieve when you put your mind to it.

Having graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in robotics, in addition to being a Brooke Owens Fellow, Schmitt credits her time in Girl Scouts for teaching her the crucial skills and mindset to pursue the prestigious but male-dominated career path. And today, she's still using those leadership and critical thinking skills as she helps researchers and scientists navigate space.

Discover how she turned a dream into a galaxy of opportunities.
