Hair, Lips, and Skin: Your Pandemic TLC DIY Guide

The pandemic has taken a toll on everyone. Imagine sitting at home for weeks and doing nothing but balancing office tasks and managing household chores (and children). That can be physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting.

The staleness of my daily routine wasn’t very kind to me, either. I lost interest in exercising, ate lots of junk food, and had poor sleeping hygiene. After three months, I eventually realized that my lousy attitude affected my physical and mental well-being massively.

Many other DIY remedies involve too many ingredients and are often time-consuming.

I didn’t feel beautiful, and I certainly didn’t look beautiful. So, I pulled up my socks and started making a conscious effort to work out and eat healthily. And since there was no way I could visit a beauty salon, I designed my own skin-care routine. Here are three simple remedies I swear by:

1. Coconut Oil for Hair

I am not a big fan of hair spas. I have never colored my hair and don’t intend to do so. I don’t believe in adding any chemicals to my hair, but what I do like doing is massaging it with warm coconut oil to maintain its growth and sheen.

Seriously, this is a 30-second remedy that involves nothing but heating the oil in a pan and applying it directly to the scalp with your fingertips. The best way to ensure its nutrients reach your scalp is to make hair partitions before massaging the scalp gently. It is relaxing and soothing.

2. Honey-Sugar Scrub for Lips

Here’s an easy way to get rosy lips with this simple remedy:

  • Put 1 tablespoon of white sugar in a small bowl.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix the ingredients properly to prepare a scrub. 
  • Spread the scrub on your lips with your fingertips and gently massage for 30 seconds.
  • Leave on your lips for a few minutes then rinse with cold water.

The sugar exfoliates the skin of the lips, and honey acts as a natural humectant, keeping the lips hydrated. Follow this remedy two to three times a week.

3. Avocado Mask for Face

Often called Mother Nature’s No. 1 moisturizer, avocado is rich in fat-soluble vitamins, calcium, and amino acids that fortify the skin by providing it nourishment. This two-ingredient remedy is simple:

  • Scoop out an avocado in a bowl and mash it into a smooth paste.
  • Add a bit of yogurt to the paste and whisk properly.
  • Apply the mixture on your face with your fingers in a circular motion.
  • Leave it on for 10-12 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

The application of moisturizer after this is optional. If your skin is very oily, replace the yogurt with an egg white. How often you do this is up to you.

Many other DIY remedies involve too many ingredients and are often time-consuming. I believe in working smart, so my DIY ideas are perfect for everyone who wants a quick fix for their hair, lips, and skin.
