Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has officially filed to end the conservatorship that has controlled his daughter’s life and finances for the last 13 years

On Tuesday, the 69-year-old filed court documents with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, obtained by NBC News, indicating his daughter "is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required." The filing also said that Britney Spears' circumstances have changed "to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist."

Additionally, the petition asks that the pop star not have to undergo a new psychological evaluation to terminate the guardianship.

"The conservatorship has helped Ms. Spears get through a major life crisis, rehabilitate and advance her career, and put her finances and her affairs in order. But recently, things have changed," the filing says. "Ms. Spears is now outspoken in her frustration with the level of control imposed by a conservatorship, and has pleaded with this Court to 'let her have her life back.'"

That latter part aligns with what the singer asked for in front of a judge back in June. During her tearful testimony then, she asked that she not have to undergo another evaluation and pleaded to the judge that she needed her help.

"I want to petition basically to end the conservatorship. But I don't want to be evaluated, to be sat in a room with people for hours a day, like they did me before. And they made it even worse for me after that happened,” explained the mom of two.

Of Jamie Spears’ petition, Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart told People that the filing represents "vindication."

"Having exposed his misconduct and improper plan to hold his daughter hostage by trying to extract a multimillion-dollar settlement, Mr. Spears has now effectively surrendered. There is no settlement," Rosengart said.

"To the extent Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, he is incorrect and our investigation into financial mismanagement and other issues will continue.”

The battle to end her conservatorship has been an ongoing issue for Britney, and it has prohibited her from controlling many aspects of her own life since 2008. In addition to limiting access to her own money, the conservatorship also impacted who she was allowed to date and even the color of her kitchen cabinets, as per filings obtained by The New York Times.
