Kristen Stewart made headlines last year when she was announced as the star of the upcoming Princess Diana biopic. This week, the film poster dropped and Stewart’s likeness to the late royal is uncanny.

On Wednesday, early footage from the Pablo Larraín-directed biopic, Spencer, was shown at CinemaCon. Spencer follows Diana Spencer — aka Princess Diana — over the course of three days during a Christmas holiday with the royal family at Norfolk's Sandringham estate, “where rumors of affairs and a divorce abound,” according to Neon, which is putting out the film.

“There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days,” reads the film’s description.

The clip reportedly features Diana sparring over a pool table at the royal estate with Prince Charles, played by Jack Farthing, initially about one of their sons (Harry and William). It goes on to become a more intense argument.

"There's two of everyone," says Charles in the scene, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. "We are given tasks, you have to be able to make your body do things you hate."

"That you hate?" says Diana.

"Yes, for the good of the country," continues Charles. "For the people, because they don't want us to be people. That's how it is. I'm sorry, I thought you knew."

The film’s poster features Stewart donning a sumptuous cream gown with a long train. Royal obsessives will possibly see the gown as a nod to her iconic 1981 wedding dress. CNN notes that “the sparkling details and silhouette may also have been inspired by the famed ‘Diaghilev’ gown that she wore to the premiere of the 1987 James Bond movie The Living Daylights.”

Fans gushed at the sight of the poster, lauding both the imagery and the potential of Stewart’s performance in the process. One fan wrote that “they should hang this poster in the louvre,” while another said it “looks like it’s about to win Kristen Stewart a lot of oscars.

Viewers of the Netflix series The Crown, based on the royal family, will surely like this response: ok this poster is better than all of the crown.”

Spencer is slated for release in November 2021.
