Olivia Rodrigo's hit song "Driver's License" is smashing records and racking up streams.
If you're like us, you've probably been singing " 'Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street" to yourself for the better part of the last few weeks. But who could blame you? Since the teenage sensation dropped the track earlier this month, the song has been everywhere.
"Drivers license" — a song presumably about Rodrigo's previous relationship with actor Joshua Bassett — has generated some serious, history-making numbers.
In addition to becoming the biggest-ever debut in the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs Chart history, the song has also broken Spotify's record for most streams of a song in a single week and the fastest song to surpass 100 million streams in Spotify history (~8 days).
According to Spotify's global weekly Top 200 chart, the song streamed a whopping 65,873,080 times during the week ending on Jan. 14. CNN notes that the song even "set the platform's record for most streams in a day for a non-holiday tune on Jan. 11. It then beat its own record on Jan 12."
Overall, Rodrigo, who currently stars in Disney+'s High School Musical: The Musical — The Series, had the biggest bow for a debut single by a female artist in history with 76.1 million streams in its first week in the U.S., says Chart Data.
Of her success, Rodrigo tweeted on Tuesday that she "truly cannot believe this is real life" and profusely thanked her fans.
Congrats to you, Olivia. Now, if you'll excuse us, we need to go cry to "Drivers License" for the fourth time today.
