These Pandemic Practices are Here to Stay in My Life

It’s safe to say that the pandemic has indeed changed the way we live. From the way we work to how we socially interact with others, we’ve had to adapt to a new way of living life that steers away from what society generally deemed as “normal” during pre-COVID life. This is still a difficult time for many, but there have been a number of practices — in other words, “silver linings” — I’ve taken on during the pandemic that I’m proud to continue embracing in my everyday life. Here are a few:

Outdoor Walks

At the very beginning of the pandemic, I found myself quickly looking for solutions to get out of the house and get my body moving while still social distancing. My solution to this was taking more walks outdoors. My newfound time allowed me to embrace the trails in my area that I’ve never found the time to visit before. Now that I’m still working virtually, I love squeezing in an outdoor walk during my lunch break or when I’m free during the weekend. It’s been a great way to clear my mind.

Trying New Recipes

Before the pandemic, cooking was something that I did, but I never gave myself the chance to truly get creative in the kitchen. During the pandemic, I’ve had time to try a ton of new recipes, especially ones that I’ve had my eye on for years. I’ve now made it a thing to try at least one new recipe a week. I can’t picture my week without doing this.

Making Virtual Connections

I’ve never been able to connect with other creatives as much as I have within the past year and a half. While doing things virtually has been a large adjustment, the biggest highlight for me through it all has been the numerous virtual coffees and chats with others in the creative field.

Putting More Effort into Checking in with Loved Ones

The pandemic reminded me and so many others how important it is to check in with loved ones. This has been a time of uncertainty and an incredibly difficult time for many who have had to navigate a completely new way of life. It hasn’t been easy, but if anything, these times have reminded me that things can change in an instant. I’ve learned it will always be worth finding the time to check in with the ones close to you.

Prioritize Rest

I think if there’s one thing a lot of us can agree on, it’s that the pandemic truly forced us to slow down. As someone who has always considered myself to be on the go, I didn’t recognize how much my body and mind needed rest until the pandemic put a pause on the activities I used to do. My mind and body benefited greatly from slowing down, and it's something I will continue to do when I know my body needs it.

The pandemic has been a tough situation to navigate, but I think one of the biggest takeaways from it all is that it has only made a lot of us stronger and has allowed us to focus on the things that truly matter. I remain incredibly grateful for what I’ve been able to take from it all.
