The Perfect Plant-Based Party Menu

Throwing a stellar summer party means having a great menu on deck. There are several summer classics, from hamburgers to hot dogs to tacos, and none of them seems to disappoint. However, with more people becoming vegan or vegetarian, it seems fitting to be prepared for putting a progressive twist on these traditional dishes. To help you plan the perfect plant-based paty menu, here are four vegan recipes that will blow the minds of the most fervent of carnivores. 

Hamburgers

Hamburgers are an all-American classic that manage to make any summer barbecue feel nostalgic. They are simple, affordable, and tasty. In order to make this recipe fully plant-based, switch your burger to either an Impossible Burger or a Beyond Burger. Though they aren’t exactly identical to one another, they are equally delicious and insanely reminiscent of ground beef. From the texture to the taste, both brands have mastered the art of vegan meat. Simply grill the patties on both sides for no more than three minutes. Toast the buns while they grill, and then dress them with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Place your plant-based pattie on top of your veggie-covered bun, and then drizzle ketchup and mustard before finishing it with a few pickles and your toasted top bun. 

Ingredients:

  • 6 Beyond Meat or Impossible Meat patties
  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce 
  • 1 package of hamburger buns (whole wheat or white)
  • 1 jar of bread and butter pickles
  • 1 sliced white onion 
  • 2 large sliced heirloom tomatoes 
  • Mustard
  • Ketchup 

Hot Dogs

Chowing down on savory hot dogs always makes me feel like I’m sitting at the ballpark watching the ninth inning of a baseball game. Though they are similar in style to the hamburger, hot dogs have a unique flavor that can cause some crazy cravings. To make vegan hot dogs, start by grilling Beyond Sausage, cooking both sides until they are at your desired level of charred. Toast your hot dog buns face down on the grill for just a minute or so before placing your cooked vegan sausage in the middle. On one side of the bun, sprinkle your chopped onion. On the other side, spread your relish. Bridge the gap between the two with some ketchup and mustard and enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Beyond Sausages 
  • ½ chopped red onion 
  • Relish
  • Mustard 
  • Ketchup 

Tacos

With all of the new and innovative meat substitutes available, vegan tacos are one of the most simple plant-based recipes to make, being that the “meat” doesn’t have to take a specific shape or form. Since I think Beyond Meat or Impossible Meat are two of the most realistic vegan meat substitutes, I recommend using either of those. Simply place your “meat” in a frying pan and cook as you would ground beef. Simmer on low heat in order to get the most tender and flavorful taste. As the “meat” is cooking, sprinkle your taco seasoning on top, allowing the spices to really soak in. Slice onion and avocado and chop the tomato and cilantro before setting them aside on a serving platter. Sprinkle some garlic powder on top of the “meat” once it is done cooking and let people serve themselves.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of ground Beyond Meat or Impossible Meat
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning 
  • ½ thin-sliced red onion
  • 1 chopped tomato 
  • 2 sliced avocados 
  • 1 tbsp. of garlic powder 
  • 1 tbsp. of chopped cilantro
  • 1 box of taco shells 

Veggie Skewers

Whether it be with chicken or shrimp, kabobs have always been a popular summer barbecue dish. Rather than using a meat substitute, simply fill a skewer with your favorite veggies and throw them on the grill. I recommend cutting a head of cauliflower into single chunks along with some onion and red bell pepper. Slice your zucchini and leave your mushrooms whole before designing your skewers to your liking. Grill and then drizzle with olive oil and top with some garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Ingredients: 

  • 1 head of cauliflower
  • 2 sliced red bell peppers (large chunks) 
  • 1 sliced red onion (large chunks)
  • 2 sliced zucchinis 
  • 1 package of crimini mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. garlic powder 
  • Salt and pepper
