An Adult Twist on a Classic Kids' Creepy Dessert
Thinking back on my elementary school days, some of my favorite times were around the holidays. A holiday party during a school day meant a break from the boring monotony of studying, and it also meant getting to enjoy some tasty treats. Holiday-themed treats always made me extra happy as they were usually fun and creative.
Unfortunately, as an adult, I receive fewer breaks during the workday for a theme party. And, the treats I once enjoyed as a child aren’t always the best for my aging body. Luckily, I found that there are many classic kids’ desserts that can be made more adult-friendly with a few easy swaps.
One of my favorite desserts that I’d find at a childhood Halloween party was A Cup of Dirt. AA Cup of Dirt traditionally consists of chocolate pudding mixed with crushed Oreos and gummy worms. Delicious, yes. But healthy? That’s a big no.
Thankfully, I have found a way to continue to enjoy A Cup of Dirt as an adult with a few easy healthy swaps. This recipe is a gluten-free, low-sugar, low-carb, and a highly delicious version of the original. It is also absurdly quick and easy to make. Your friends will thank you for showing their taste buds this nostalgic romp during your Halloween parties this year.
Adult Cup of Dirt
Makes four servings
Ingredients:
1 packet Simply Delish Instant Chocolate Pudding
4 packets Smart Sweets Gummy Worms
8 gluten-free Oreos
1 ⅔ cups of milk (or milk substitute)
4 cups (paper or plastic, clear preferred)
Directions:
- In a deep bowl, pour the contents of the Simply Delish Instant Chocolate Pudding packet. Add in the milk and beat them together using a handheld or electronic mixer for two minutes or until uniform. If the pudding needs to solidify more, you can put it in the fridge for a half-hour.
- Evenly separate the pudding into the four cups, leaving enough room to include more ingredients, around two inches of space from the top.
- Open the packets of gummy worms. Pour one packet of gummy worms into each cup. You can include as few or as many worms as you desire. Mix the gummy worms into the pudding in each cup.
- In a plate or a bowl, crush the Oreos into the consistency that you desire for your “dirt.” Evenly separate the crushed Oreos into four sections and sprinkle on top of each of the four cups, creating the “dirt” effect.
