Blueberry Banana Delight for Babies

Healthy, good-for-you food doesn’t have to be bland or boring. This sentiment is shared by babies, as well; they simply don’t know how to tell you. (I am the baby whisperer — I can hear babies.) There is no reason to eat food if it's not going to delight your senses — finger-licking taste is the most important reason why I do what I do. In my kitchen, healthy and delicious are synonymous.

This three-ingredient meal for babies is chock-full of life-giving nutrients, and it is incredibly tasty. Big kids can enjoy it as a smoothie or frozen into a popsicle.

Don’t be fooled by their tiny size: Blueberries are nutrient-dense and rank highest of any fruit for antioxidants — those free-radical-fighting powerhouses. One cup delivers 14 percent of the recommended daily dose of fiber and nearly a quarter of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

Hemp seeds are one of Mother Nature’s gifts, boasting the most concentrated balance of proteins, essential fats, vitamins, and enzymes, combined with a relative absence of sugar, starches, and saturated fats. They have high levels of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as beta-carotene, carbohydrates, minerals, and fiber. What’s more, a recently published study from Spain’s University of Seville found that hemp has an ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids. They are exceptionally rich in linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). They also contain gamma-linolenic acid, which has been linked with several health benefits.

Bananas are known for their sweetness and high level of potassium, and are part of the BRAT (banana, rice, applesauce, and toast) diet to help with severe diarrhea. They are also loaded with essential vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, riboflavin, and B6. A superb immune-system booster, bananas aid sleep and lessen pain. Pay close attention the next time your baby eats a banana — the baby is happier and sleeps easier.

Your baby is going to love this recipe because it is so delicious, and you're going to love it because it's healthy. It is a win-win for all.
