Healthy friendships are good for your mental health. Unhealthy friendships can affect your mood, outlook, and even your thoughts about yourself. If you notice problems in your friendships, you have the option to take any of these steps: Be accountable for how you contribute to the dynamics in your friendship. Decide if the friendship is repairable. Repair the issues. Change the way you engage in the relationship. Exit the relationship. Remember, people with healthy friendships live longer.

10 Signs of an Unhealthy Friendship

  • The relationship is competitive.

  • You're on your worst behavior when you're with your friend.

  • You feel emotionally drained after connecting with your friend.

  • Your friend tries to embarrass you in front of others.

  • You don't have anything in common.

  • Your friend shares details of your personal life with others.

  • The friendship is not reciprocal.

  • You're unable to have healthy disagreements.

  • Your friend doesn't respect your boundaries.

  • The relationship is enmeshed/codependent.
