Celebrating a Social-Distanced Birthday
Birthdays are special. They’re a chance to reflect on the last year, plan for the next, and, of course, get your favorite friends and family together. Though this year birthday bashes may look different than you pictured, there’s no reason to skip out on the festivities altogether.
If your friend or family member has a birthday around the corner, there’s still dozens of ways to make them feel loved and celebrated on their special day.
Here’s a few of my favorites.
Send Letters to Your Loved Ones
Snail mail is back in style. Organize your loved ones’ friends and family members, and have them all send cards in advance, so they arrive on the big day. Not only will your pal be pleasantly surprised by the time the mail arrives, they’ll have cards and letters of love and celebration to look back on for years.
Host a Virtual Game Night
Soak up some much-needed virtual facetime (and friendly competition) with the birthday gal or guy during a fun game night. Apps like Houseparty are stocked with group-friendly games, or you can purchase games on sites like JackBox, Days of Wonder, and Steam to play on Zoom or Google Hangout.
Surprise Your Loved One with Their Favorite Takeout Meal
Pop your loved one’s address into Postmates or Grubhub and surprise them with birthday dinner at their door. It might not be a cake, but ask them to send you a selfie with candles in their pizza. They'll never forget this year's birthday.
