4 Reasons To Start Writing Letters – Again

When’s the last time you hand wrote or received a handwritten letter

In today’s digital age, it’s so easy to forget about writing letters or to even partake in the act anymore. But the truth is, whether you’ve written letters once, twice, a few times, or none at all, there’s something about the “outdated” act that can actually be a lot of fun. I may be a bit biased as I am a writer myself, but I believe we should keep the art of letter-writing alive. Here are just a few of my reasons.

1It Allows You To Unplug

One of the more obvious things about writing letters, as you’ve probably guessed, is that it requires no screen time or WiFi at all, just simply a pen and paper.

Sure, sending a text or email may require a lot less work and get your message delivered much faster, but if you’re looking for a way to disconnect, unplug, and put your complete attention to something that can mean a lot for another person, writing a letter is the perfect way to do that.

2It’s More Valuable and Personal

The fact that letters are considered to be a bit more outdated makes handwritten letters all the more unique. Your decision to write a letter to someone shows careful thought. The recipient will know that you decided to put all else aside to put time and effort to share special words with them. As a result, it makes this form of connection more meaningful and personal.

3They Make Great Mementos

Similar to photos, I find that letters are great mementos to cherish. Whether it’s from your best friend, your significant other, your family members, or someone else who means a lot to you, the letter filled with words that have been carefully thought about and crafted just for you are ones that you can choose to keep with you forever. They are truly timeless.

Not to mention, there’s no better feeling than looking back at a letter that someone has given you, especially after a long day or a tough week. It can be the very thing that puts a smile on your face all over again!

4They Make You and the Recipient Feel Good

If you’ve ever journaled to let out some pent up thoughts, you’re likely familiar with how much of a stress reliever it can be. Writing letters is no different.

The act of writing a letter to someone can feel amazing once done. You’ve let out so much that you wanted to say to that special person, and simply doing so can make you feel fulfilled both mentally and emotionally.

The Bottom Line

Writing and receiving a letter is a very unique feeling. Whether you’re expecting a letter from someone or none at all, it evokes a sense of excitement and joy that will truly never get old! If you’re ever looking to make someone’s day, writing a letter is an amazing way to do that.
