Courteney Cox Confirms She's Reuniting with David Arquette for 'Scream 5'
Courteney Cox is ready to scream on screen once again.
The 56-year-old actress revealed she’ll be reviving her part as reporter Gale Weathers in the upcoming film, Scream 5. In a brief video on Instagram featuring the white-masked murderer, Ghostface — made famous by the 1996 horror flick — bloody text reads: "I can't wait to see this face again."
Cox has starred as Weathers four times, acting as the intrepid journalist in all three of the Scream sequels from 1997 to 2011.
Notably, Cox's announcement comes on the heels of David Arquette agreeing to reprise his role as Dewey Riley in the sequel.
"I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new. Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy," said Arquette in a May announcement from Spyglass Media Group, acknowledging the original Scream director, Craven, who died in 2015.
Arquette, who has also been in every Scream sequel alongside Cox, is the actress’s former husband and father of their daughter, Coco. The pair reportedly met on the set of Scream and “fell in love” during filming.
Outside of Arquette and Cox, longtime Scream heroine Neve Campbell, who starred as Sidney Prescott in the first three films, is rumored to also be returning but has yet to make any formal announcements. She hinted at a possible return to the franchise in May, sharing her thoughts on where her character would end up in the 21st century with Collider.
“I think you can always tell them more with these stories, and they’re such fun films,” she told the publication. "There’s obviously a huge audience for them, and the audiences want to see more of them. You can always go further with the journey. Certainly, with Sidney, she comes to some new shift in her life, at the time, and I don’t know. We’ll see."
