Elliot Page Steps Out in ‘First Swim Trunks' in Celebratory Body Post
Elliot Page is celebrating life and new milestones. On Monday, the actor shared a cheery development in his journey as a trans man.
The 34-year-old posted a snapshot of himself by the pool with the caption, “Trans bb’s first swim trunks."
The image arrives on the heels of the Oscar-nominated star coming out as transgender back in December 2020 in an interview with Time magazine. Page said in the interview, "[I] never recognized myself" and "for a long time I could not even look at a photo of myself.” Of the journey he's now on, Page said that he's "really excited to act, now that I’m fully who I am, in this body."
“No matter the challenges and difficult moments of this, nothing amounts to getting to feel how I feel now," he said.
In the aftermath of that announcement, Page has since talked openly about getting top surgery to continue with his transition. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in April, the Umbrella Academy actor spoke about the importance of the trans community having access to health care.
“There is such an attack on trans health care right now when already there is such a lack of access or trans people who don’t even want to go to the doctor,” he said.
Page also divulged why it was so meaningful for him to have top surgery and told Winfrey that one of the things that has brought him the most joy since has been “getting out of the shower."
"The towel’s around your waist and you’re looking at yourself in the mirror and you’re just like, ‘There I am.’ And I’m not having the moment where I’m panicked,” he told Winfrey. “It’s being able to touch my chest and feel comfortable in my body for the — probably the first time.”
