Full STEAM Ahead: This Virtual ‘Curiosity Camp’ Is Custom-Made for Girls
Hey parents, looking for a way to make this summer a little more fun for your daughters? Well, Curiosity Camp is a free, virtual summer camp for girls ages 6 to 12.
Launched by media and entertainment company GoldieBlox, the camp offers a plethora of programs focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). Using the Curiosity Camp map on the brand’s website, users can click around to find awesome STEAM-oriented activities. These include the She Shed, which takes you to Cool Tools. According to the brand’s site, Cool Tools introduces campers to a guide who “will introduce an object, tool, or product that relates to her work in some way. [Campers] will get to see the ACTUAL tools our amazing guides use in experiments and get to learn about the history behind them.”
Other activities include going “stargazing,” which offers a fun infographic on the phases of the moon and how to tell what each phase looks like. Draw Her Life gives campers an “exclusive look at the life of an incredibly talented woman.” A Curiosity Camp guide tells campers about her life's journey, “where she lives, what her goals were and are, what got her to this place, her ups and downs and more!”
Accompanying the virtual camp activities is a video series, or “campisodes,” that feature lessons from real women working in STEAM career fields. Previous “campisodes” have covered everything from paleontology to orcas to brains. A new one comes out every Wednesday and Friday. For a teaser: The brain episode teaches you all about why brains are attracted to bright colors, how the brain is the same consistency as jello (seriously!), and more.
You can take part in Curiosity Camp via GoldieBlox’s website and/or their YouTube channel.
CircleAround is owned by One GS Media, a subsidiary of Girl Scouts of the USA, and we make financial distributions to benefit the next generation of Girl Scouts. We strive to make the world a better place by supporting each other today and emboldening the women leaders of tomorrow.
