Heather Morris Honors Naya Rivera with Dance Tribute
Heather Morris is honoring the life and legacy of her friend Naya Rivera with dance.
On Tuesday, the Glee star paid homage to her former co-star — whose body was found in Lake Piru in California last week after going missing earlier this month — in an emotional video on Instagram.
To the tune of Rivera’s song Radio Silence, the 33-year-old performed for fans and wrote a heartfelt caption to her late friend.
“Grieving looks very differently on everyone...but one thing's for certain: I’ve felt it’s hard to feel joy or keep busy when mourning without thinking that you’re not honoring that person or you’re forgetting about them,” wrote Morris, who added that a friend reminded her “that honoring someone can mean you’re enjoying your life FOR them.”
Morris also acknowledged the complicated feelings she had for hitting a million followers following Rivera’s death: “I made it to 1M followers in these last few weeks and at first I was resentful because I gained them from a tragedy, but after giving it a breath ... I realized you all have just surrounded me with love and support. That I just see you angels wrapping your wings around me 🙏🏻”
The actor and dancer has been active on social media in the wake of Rivera’s death, posting memories they shared together and photos of their respective children playing together.
“You constantly taught me lessons about grief, about beauty and poise, about being strong, resilient ... Yet, the utmost important lesson I learned most of all from you was being a consistent and loving friend. You were the first to check in, the first to ask questions, the first to listen ... you cherished our friendship and I never took that for granted,” wrote Morris in one caption on a post last week.
Rivera had been boating with her 4-year-old son Josey when she disappeared. Search crews were deployed shortly thereafter and her body was found nearly a week later. She was 33 years old.
