TikTok Comedian Sarah Cooper Is Coming to Netflix
Comedian Sarah Cooper, who has become widely known for her TikTok lip-syncing videos, is getting a Netflix special.
Titled Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine, the variety special has been described as “full of vignettes dealing with issues of politics, race, gender, class, and other light subjects.” Slated for a fall 2020 release, it will also “feature special guest interviews, sketches, and more,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
The special is notably being directed by Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black star, Natasha Lyonne. Lyonne will also act as executive producer alongside Maya Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, Paula Pell, and Cooper herself.
An internet sensation, Cooper has gone viral dozens of times over the last few months with her TikTok videos that feature her reenacting the president’s remarks with his actual audio. Fans and fellow celebrities laud her gesticulation, facial expressions, and quick turnaround of clips.
The 42-year-old even guest-hosted an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, telling viewers, "I started this year doing a late-night set at a pizza place in Jersey City. Now, here I am hosting a late-night show in a vacant house. Actually, the number of people in the audience is exactly the same.”
She went on to joke about working at Google, saying: “They had fun names for everybody. Like the older Googlers are called ‘Greyglers,’ and the new Googlers are called ‘Nooglers.’ They had some trouble coming up with a name for the Black Googlers, though, so finally, they decided to just call them David and Shawn.”
Outside of Google, Cooper’s career pre-TikTok involved her being a writer and correspondent on the CBS All Access pilot Old News, as per CNN. She also authored best-selling books, such as 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings and How to be Successful Without Hurting Men's Feelings.
