Yes, That Is Nicole Kidman Singing in 'The Undoing' Credits
Nicole Kidman is showing off her set of pipes once more.
For the new HBO miniseries, The Undoing, the Australian actress — who stars in the show as the main character Grace Fraser — sings the song for the opening credits. The familiar tune is “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt.
In an interview with Zoë Bell on her BBC Radio 2 show last month, Kidman regaled listeners with how her singing the opening track for the show came to fruition.
“We were in lockdown," explained Kidman. "We were in Tennessee, in Nashville, and the director [Susanne Bier] sent me a text going, ‘Would you sing the title track, ‘Dream a Little Dream,’ to the series?’ ”
“I was like, ‘What? No, I so don’t want to do that. My voice is not good,’ which is always my reaction, and she said, ‘No, no, I think you can sing it.’ ”
The 53-year-old, who previously sang her heart out in 2001’s Moulin Rouge, then had a little help from her country music crooner husband, Keith Urban. Naturally, the famous couple has an at-home recording studio so the pair got to work together and pumped out a piece that Kidman seems to, uh, be somewhat okay with.
“We laid it down and sent it in, and they mixed it so it ended up in the series… I don't know if that's a good or bad thing,” she told Bell.
Kidman also insisted in a video she did for HBO that apparently Bier told her she “had to do it.”
Whether Kidman is merely being humble or not is up to you, but her seductive version of the song is in keeping with the mysterious tone of the show, a thriller set in New York. The first few episodes have already dropped and new ones will continue to roll out weekly until the end of the month.
