5 Things I’d Never Wear to the Office, but Am Wearing Now

I work for a 5,000+ person global-entertainment company, and while our offices are shut down for at least six months this year, we’ve all had to adapt to the new realities of working from home. Personally, I am loving it and hope I can transition to primarily working from home in the future. But my “professional wardrobe” has shifted dramatically, and here are five fashion categories that I’ve been sporting at home that I would never wear into the office.

Baseball Hats

I’ve found it’s completely acceptable to rock a hat on a video conference, especially if I’m taking the call on my patio or in the backyard. And, especially acceptable to wear if I haven’t washed my hair in a few days. I have an assortment of baseball caps to match with whatever outfit I have on that day, but my favorite has been my new Green Bay Packers hat. My parents are quarantining in Wisconsin and just shipped it out to me a few weeks ago in a care package. I've been repping some serious Green Bay pride over here in New England Patriot territory.

Blazers are out and lightweight kimonos are in. Their bright and bold patterns are great to mix-and-match with solid closet staples. I have a few favorite kimonos that have made it into my summer-outfit rotation. My blue and white floral kimono goes great over any solid T or tank, and I have a gorgeous yellow chevron kimono that I picked up in Canada with my in-laws last year.

Because no one can see your entire outfit during a shoulders-up video call. Shorts are the perfect way to cool down during these hot summer months. Just be careful not to adjust your screen too far down during the meeting.

'Athleisure' Wear

Joggers, athletic shirts, and leggings, oh my! I find that if I put on athletic clothes in the morning, I’m more motivated to do some quick Pilates exercises or hand weights between meetings. Athleisure wear is also great for going on a quick walk during my lunch break… even if it's just power walking down the driveway to get the mail.

I’ve been swapping button-up blouses for more casual T-shirt vibes. I try to keep my T-shirts fairly neutral Monday-Thursday, but love throwing on my tie-dye T to keep casual Fridays going strong.
