Dress for Success the Sustainable Way

In a world of waste, particularly when it comes to fashion, I am passionate about bringing more focus and value to sustainability. I’m Ashley Adkisson, founder and CEO of Clothes Concierge, and I’m making sure that barely worn items that are still lovable stay out of our landfills, while giving business-professional women more time, money, and space in their closets.

While my parents couldn't afford to put me into Girl Scouts, my neighbors invited me with them to one of their functions, and it’s a memory I cherish. I buy my cookies each year and am still supporting this fantastic organization. I believe it gives girls a bright future, and I want to be part of making that future even better through building a successful business focused on sustainability.

Travel Without Checking Bags

I’ve put together a hybrid company of Rent the Runway and StitchFix, yet it’s more convenient, affordable, and sustainable — a product of the various pilot programs I ran to work out all the details. Based in Colorado, Clothes Concierge focuses our monthly memberships around local real estate agents, since despite the pandemic they are still busy and need to look fresh in different outfits on a more regular basis.

We deliver to their office 10 pieces a month, which are pressed and ready-to-wear and curated by an actual stylist, not inaccurate artificial intelligence algorithms. They never have to go to the post office to handle returns, as we pick the clothes back up, too. Since we handle all the dry cleaning, they save time not spending their weekends doing laundry or taking on the additional dry cleaning expenses.

"After our clothing items have reached their maximum rental life, we move them to a reseller market, and then at the end of the year, they’ll be donated to underprivileged women."

Next, we are expanding this wardrobe service as a destination service to luxury hotels in Denver, making it simpler to fly without paying to check bags and wearing wrinkled clothes. We drop off the outfits our clients need for their events, including any special-occasion gowns. During their stay, they will look fabulous the whole time, and then will get to leave it all behind for us to tend to while they go home without dirty laundry stuffed in their suitcase. Of course, for both the monthly members and travelers, there’s a purchase option if they fall in love with something and want to take it home.

After our items have reached their maximum rental life, we move them to a reseller market, and then at the end of the year, they’ll be donated to underprivileged women. I can’t wait to expand this service into multiple markets and reach more cities. Do you have a dream that burns inside of you, to do more and bring it to life? I hope that will be your “what’s next”!

Ashley Adkisson, Founder, Clothes Concierge, is based out of Denver, and aspires to make a larger social impact in the circular-fashion space by making sure the wardrobe service is more sustainably focused and more convenient than any others.
